25" (64 cm.) Thick paste porcelain shoulder head with plump face and shoulders,black
sculpted hair waved away from face into soft pageboy curls and held by sculpted black hair
ribbon,exposed ears,painted facial features,muslin body,paper mache arms to above the
elbows,wearing wonderful antique woolen dress,undergarments,stockings,leather
shoes,necklace,and carrying little toy ball. Condition: generally excellent. Comments:
Germany,circa 1875,the same model as the modeled-hair bisque doll known as "Alice in
Wonderland",here in porcelain with rare black hair for this model. Value Points: very rare thick
paste porcelain lending an appearance of hand-pressed detail,the richly-sculpted hair
decorated by sculpted ribbon. Ex-Legoland Museum of Antique Dolls and Toys,acquired at
that auction by Barbara Poppenheimer.
