39" (99 cm.) Firmly-stuffed felt swivel head with center seam and side seams to the black shoe-
button eyes,rounded nose,unusual painting of brows,stitch-shaped mouth with painted detail of
lips,stitched on ears,blonde cropped mohair wig with attached wire-framed felt cap,firmly-
stuffed body with felt hands posed curved and with separate fingers,large felt feet with sewn-on
shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Steiff (metal button in ear with underscored f).
Comments: Steiff,from their early period,circa 1910,the clown was made in seven sizes from
1904-1928,although the early metal button indicates early production. Value Points: rare early
Steiff clown doll is wearing his original felt costume with pom-poms,felt ruffled collar with bead
accents,has original button,and is in the rare largest size made.
