Description
11 1/2". Each has wooden carved head with well-defined facial features and hair,including woman with carved chignon,tiny painted half-moon shaped eyes,and pale lips; and aged man with painted thin black hair with hole at back for real-hair queue (missing),carved wrinkles,larger deeply-set eyes,slightly-smiling,each with cloth body and wooden hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Chinese Door of Hope Mission,early 1920s. Value Points: rare large size of the hard-to-find models,an original tag attached to the woman reads "woman in extreme mourning"; she wears elaborately-layered simple costume of sackcloth and homespun; and he wears original blue patterned silk gown with lavender short jacket,trousers,cap,and shoes.
