Description
15" (38 cm.) All-wooden carved polychromed figure of elderly gentleman with very stern features, bald pate with carved rolls of curls at sides of face and nape, closed downcast lips, painted beard stubble, one-piece head and torso, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, very expressive posing of fingers, wearing silk jacket and short pants, hat, vest, embroidered shirt, stockings and with painted shoes with applied buckles. Condition: generally excellent. Genoese, late 1700s, possibly the workshop of Marc Antonio Poggio, the doll has exceptional carving detail with remarkable similarities of style to #127, and outstanding subtlety of painting.
