20" (51 cm.) One-piece carved lower head and torso with well-defined sculpted hair,and facial
features,enamel inset eyes,dark eyeliner,feathered brows,closed mouth,strong nose,pierced
ears,carved stand-up collar painted to match the feather on her carved bonnet; the bonnet lifts
off for access to the hidden compartment inside the head,dowel-jointing at hips and knees of
the wooden legs with painted shoes,cloth upper arms,wooden hands,wearing lovely antique
costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: American,mid-19th century,maker and
background of the doll is unknown,although the highly-stylized carving are suggestive of
figureheads on ships and be the work of one such artist. Value Points: very fine quality of
sculpting and painting with fine decorative details,enamel eyes.
