19" (48 cm.) Cloth doll with deeply-pressed and oil-painted facial features depicting a smiling
chubby-cheeked baby,shaded blue eyes,red and black upper eyeliner,accented eye
corners,shaded nostrils,closed mouth,blonde thickly-painted hair to create illusion of real
hair,firmly-stuffed weighted baby body with oil-painted finish,stitched fingers,separate
thumb,one-piece baby legs,wearing antique baby gown and wool ruffled bonnet. Condition:
generally excellent. Marks: (Chase stamp on logo on torso). Comments: Martha Chase,circa
1910,the model was weighted to simulate an actual infant and was designed to teach infant
care to young nurses and mothers. Value Points: surely one of the prettiest Chase dolls
made,with very chubby cheeks,impressed dimples in cheeks and around the mouth,exquisite
original painting.
