20" (51 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate,very deep brown glass
paperweight inset eyes,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,brush-stroked brows with
feathering,accented nostrils and eye corner,pierced ears,closed mouth with accented
lips,brunette mohair wig over cork pate,French kid poupee body with gusset-jointing at
elbows,hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 5 (head and shoulders) F.G.
(shoulders). Comments: Gaultier,circa 1867. Value Points: an exceptionally beautiful and
important example of the beloved model with finest bisque,very sturdy and fresh body,and
wearing an exceptional original costume of silks,laces,metallic thread embroidery,opalescent
beading,crown with "diamond" accents,the doll may have been part of an historical
retrospective of French royal queens prepared for exhibition during the era of the 1867
International Paris Exposition.
