Description
22" (56 cm.) overall. Standing upon a velvet-covered base is a bisque-head doll with blue
glass paperweight inset eyes,painted lashes and brows,closed mouth,pierced ears,blonde
mohair wig over cork pate,French carton torso and legs,bisque forearms,wearing original
elaborate folklore style costume with very elaborate coiffe in the Medici style,of velvets and
metallic threads. She holds a small bisque doll in her right hand and bells in her left hand.
When wound,she turns her head side to side,nods,then alternately rings the bells,and brings
the doll up to her face as though to kiss her. Condition: old hairline on forehead extends into
each eye (most hidden under the coiffe),mechanism and music function well. Marks: Depose
Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 3 (and artist checkmarks on head). Comments: attributed to Roullet et
Decamps,circa 1888. Value Points: rare model of automaton with endearing activity,original
and elaborate costume.
