Description
3" (8 cm.) x 4",7" x 9" framed. A fashionably-dressed older girl and her young sister stand at the
counter of the well-laden bakery, choosing treats or desserts while the sales clerk looks on. The
painting is notable for details of costumes aptly portraying the style of the 1885 era. The
miniature painting is signed L.L. and is presented in ornate frame with gold leaf finish. From a
series of miniature paintings by 19th century French artist,Luigi Loir, circa 1885. The paintings
were commissioned by luxury Parisian stores who used the images in trade card advertising, but
the original paintings,of which this is one, were retained by the Loir estate until c. 1995 when
they were sold at a Paris auction. The artistry and superb detailing are enhanced by rich
colors, and the painting is perfectly preserved.
