Description
19" (48 cm.) A bisque-headed boy with large brown glass eyes,painted features,closed
mouth,brunette human hair wig,and bisque hands is seated upon a paper mache tree stump with
sculpted ground and paper tree leaves above. Dressed in silks and with striped stockings,felt hat
and wooden shoes,he holds a Scottish bagpipe. When wound,music plays and he nods and turns
his head in time to the bagpipe that he ?plays". Condition: very good,original costume with some
fraility,music functions well,arm mechanism needs a bit of adjustment. Marks: F 1 G (doll)
(original paper label on base lists the two tunes and initials of music box maker B.P.). Comments:
Gustav Vichy,circa 1885. Value Points: rare theme of the vignette automaton with beautiful
music,beautiful doll,and excellent craftsmanship of wooden bagpipe frame.
