12" (30 cm.) All-wooden doll with sculpted short curly hair that is painted shaded black over
gesso undercoat,brown complexion with painted upper glancing eyes,closed mouth,smoothly-
finished wooden body with natural finish,dowel-jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and
knees,painted brown lower arms and pewter hands,painted white stockings and black pewter
ankle boots,original costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: American,Joel Ellis,circa
1875. Value Points: very rare black model by the American firm,in wonderfully-preserved original
finish.
