Description
12" (30 cm.) Each has poured wax head with slender face posed in angular manner,painted
facial features,brunette mohair wig,very slender elongated body with padded armature
allowing stylish pose,painted shoes,posed on original velvet base. Condition: very good,skirt
of standing lady very frail. Marks: Lafitte-Desirat (ink inscription on base of standing lady).
Comments: Circa 1914,Mesdames Lafitte and Desirat of Paris who designed a series of dolls to
illustrate contemporary fashion,described by one reviewer of the time as figurines that "show
us the changes in dresses,coats and hats,as well as the moods of the women who wore them".
Value Points: the haute couture is enhanced by grand posing of the ladies,one posed with one
bent knee resting on chair,especially extraordinary hat. The dolls are being sold by the
Lending Collection,Honolulu Museum of Art.
