24" (61 cm.) Solid domed paper mache head and upper torso with light wax coating over painted
complexion,cobalt blue glass sleep eyes,painted lashes,lightly-feathered brows,open mouth,two
rows of teeth,blushed cheeks,muslin mid-riff over "crier" bellows,wooden lower arms and upper
and lower legs,muslin upper arms and knees,hands and feet with composition hands and
feet,blonde mohair curly wig. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany,known as
taufling baby,circa 1860,the doll was inspired by the Ichimatsu Japanese play doll introduced at
the 1851 International Exposition in London. Value Points: an exceptional larger size taufling
with beautiful face and original finish,wig,rare body,working crier,and superb antique costume.
