Description
18" (46 cm.) h. including mirror. 13"l. 9"d. A mahogany chest of drawers with carved column
sides and bracket feet has two long drawers and two handkerchief drawers, each with tiny faux
key and acanthus-shaped carved drawer pulls and a hinged back mirror with further carving.
When the chest top surface is removed a sliding pin is revealed which, when moved to the
side, causes the cubicles and tiny drawers of a desk to rise up from a hidden compartment in the
back. The remarkable invention is preserved in impeccable condition,as it has been stored in its
original leather-covered wooden packing box (included). The quality of woods, workmanship, and
intricate detail of mechanism indicate its original use as a salesmans sample, yet it is also
perfectly suited for doll display. Excellent condition. Circa 1880.
