Description
11" (28 cm.) (excluding hat). A bisque head with blue glass spiral-threaded eyes,painted lashes,feathered brows,closed mouth with outlined lips,pierced ears,brunette mohair wig over cork pate,is mounted upon a hollow firm-sided plump torso and legs,paper mache arms with bisque hands; the hollow torso,designed to be used as a candy container,is accessed by opening the hinged "poster door" at his front torso. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose (on bottom of each foot) Lombard 11 Boulevard des Italiens Paris (gold script on inside panel). Comments: a luxury candy or bon-bon box,circa 1880,as indicated by the Depose mark on foot,and the very fine quality of bisque head and sculpted hands,presented by the prestige 19th-century Parisian bon-bon shop of Lombard. Value Points: very rare bon- bon doll with original costume,poster,and top hat,exquisite quality of bisque and hands.
