20" (51 cm.) Solid domed bisque socket head,painted brown hair with modeling
detail,almond-shaped blue glass inset eyes with paperweight effect,brown painted curly
lashes,arched feathered brows,accented nostrils,open mouth with slightly-parted lips in
laughing expression,row of sculpted teeth,French composition fully-jointed body. Condition:
generally excellent. Marks: SFBJ 227 Paris 8. Comments: SFBJ,circa 1910,from their art
character series; few examples of this model were made in this larger size which may have
been an exhibition model. Value Points: superior quality of bisque and sculpting with fine
luminous glaze of complexion that enhances the deeply-sculpted laughter lines,original body
and body finish,wearing wonderful multi-layered costume including original muslin
chemise,pique undergarments,woolen dress with featherstitching,fancy bonnet,very fine
kidskin leggings with original laces,and having original paper label from Au Nain Bleu,the
prestige Parisian toy store of the 19th and early 20th century.
