Description
8" (20 cm.) x 6". Portrait painting on board of woman in black dress and lace-edged black cap with embroidered streamers, posed in front of a red-curtained window, the woman with gentle expression and hint of smile, and the costume enhanced with touches of enhancing glaze; in original ebony frame with gilt oval medallion center. Ink script on the reverse of painting reads "Esther Francis aged 53, 1884" and with illegible name of artist. Excellent condition. American, 1884.
