Description
13" (33 cm.) All-wooden carved polychromed figure of prosperous plump-faced woman with ruddy complexion, carved hair drawn away from face into double-looped topknot tied with red band, inset enamel eyes, rounded nose tip, closed mouth with firmly-set lips, one-piece head and torso, mortise and tenon-jointing at shoulders, elbows, and hips, painted black ankle boots. Condition: generally excellent. Genoese, mid-1700s, attributed to the workshops of Pasquale Navone, wearing original costume of ribbon-laced bodice gown with paper-backed woven apron.
