Description
16" (41 cm.) All-wooden carved polychromed figure of village woman with dark complexion, carved hair drawn away from face into double-looped topknot tied with red band, inset enamel eyes, elongated nose, closed mouth, one-piece head and torso, mortise and tenon-jointing at shoulders, elbows, and hips, painted black ankle boots. Condition: generally excellent. Genoese, mid-1700s, attributed to the workshops of Pasquale Navone, wearing original market costume of ribbon-laced bodice, silk jacket, lace shawl, woven basket.
