17" (43 cm.) Bisque socket head depicting an aged man with incised wrinkles,prominent modeled thick gray eye brows,long pointy nose,closed mouth in benign smile with deeply incised smiling crinkles in the cheeks,grey glass eyes,white mohair wig and beard,Sonneberg composition and wooden fully-jointed body,wearing antique cotton and linen costume,straw bonnet,leather boots. Condition : generally excellent. Marks: S 8 Germany. Comments: Cuno and Otto Dressel,from their American historical series,circa 1890,the model was used as a portrait doll of Uncle Sam,and also appeared in factory models costumed as this example,presumably a farmer. Value Points: very rare to find characters from this series in the large size,having very fine quality of bisque,sculpting and painting.
