13" (33 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with very full cheeks,deep blue glass paperweight inset eyes with spiral threading,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,brush-stroked and feathered brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth with outlined lips,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,French composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent,body is French,correctly-sized and of the same era albeit not original to the doll. Marks: J 4. (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Joseph Joanny,circa 1882,the bebes by that firm have a distinctive and beautiful facial model as seen in this example. Value Points: very rare and beautiful bebe with expressively-large eyes,wearing lovely early pale green and ivory French silk costume with lace trim,undergarments,socks,leather shoes,and green silk bonnet with floral trim.
