20" (51 cm.) Jiggs. Each is all felt with stitch and press-shaped facial features,painted facial features to highlight the applique felt mouth on Jiggs and eyes and mouth on Maggie,welldetailed felt body,cotton and felt costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: circa 1940s,the amusing figures depict Maggie and Jiggs from the George McManus "Bringing up Father" comic strip,introduced in 1913,which humorously related the adventures of the newlyrich Jiggs who just wanted to hang out with his old Irish buddies,and his social- climbing wife Maggie. Value Points: very rare cloth dolls with wonderfully-detailed faces,costumes and accessories including Maggie's famous rolling pin and Jiggs' cane and felt cigar,all in fresh original condition.
