Description
11" (28 cm.) x 8" x 13"h. A wooden platform with lithographed paper cover to suggest a
flower garden contains a hidden mechanical and musical device that is activated by a
porcelain-tipped handle at the front. Posed upon the platform are two bisque-head
clowns, each with blue glass eyes, smiling expression on closed mouth, and wooden lower
limbs with painted shoes; one with very ruddy complexion and blue painted cap, holding a
paper accordion, and the other with white untinted complexion, bald pate, and painted clown
decorations, holding his hat in hand. When wound, both move their head side to side, while the
musician plays his accordion and the other clown extends his hand to and fro as though
asking for donations for their beautiful music! Condition: generally excellent, some scuffs on
platform corners, original costumes albeit somewhat frail. Comments: attributed to Zinner and
Sohne,Germany, circa 1890. Value Points: delightful concept enhanced by rare bisque
heads,well-functioning movements and music.
