Description
20" (51 cm.) excluding hat. Posed upon a wooden platform,covered with woven tapestry to
simulate carpet,is a paper-mache-headed clown who is perched on the edge of a high wooden
chair. He has glass brown eyes,painted white complexion,painted clown features with red-tipped
nose,open mouth with movable tongue,red fleecy mohair wig,carton torso,hinged carton
legs,bisque forearms,wearing original silk costume and cap,and holding a wooden mandolin.
When wound,his head turns and nods realistically,he strums the mandolin,and periodically he
taps his foot to the music and sticks his tongue out,while two tunes play. Condition: generally
excellent. Marks: L.B. Comments: Leopold Lambert,circa 1890. Value Points: original costume
and condition,functioning well,original paper tune label at base.
