Description
16" (41 cm.) Each has eggshell composition ("gofum") swivel head and limbs with painted
complexion over gesso,enamel inset eyes,painted facial features with sculpted character details
such as pierced nostrils and chin dimple,the girl with black wig and the boy with painted
hair,each with classic Ichimatsu body with (non-working) bellows "mama" crier in mid-torso.
Condition: generally excellent,original finish is wellpreserved,some small repair to original
costumes. Marks: (original paper labels on torsos). Comments: Japanese play dolls,known as
Ichimatsu,later 19th/early 20th century. Value Points: most captivating character expressions
with mischievous smiles,each with original costumes,complexion,and well-detailed realistic boy
and girl bodies.
