Description
13" (33 cm.) x 14" base. 14"h. A large wooden base
with tapestry cover to lend the impression of
carpeting,displays a seated bisque girl with blue
glass eyes,original mohair lashes,painted
features,open mouth,four porcelain teeth,pierced
ears,brunette human hair wig,carton torso,hinged
carton legs,bisque forearms,original silk and lace
dress,undergarments,kid shoes,woven bonnet. She is
holding a bisque doll in one hand,and a riding
crop in her other hand. Nearby stands a paper
mache toy donkey upon which is seated another
bisque doll. When wound,a number of motions and
activities take place in perfectly synchronized
manner: the doll turns her head,nods,and blinks
her eyes,alternately lifting the doll in her right
hand in admiration,and then tapping the donkey
with the riding crop; meanwhile her feet kick up
and down in delight,and music plays. Condition:
generally excellent,music and mechanism function

Lambert,the automaton model was deposed in 1894
and in his patent notes Lambert said,"I took
careful note of the movements made by the child
and I have managed to imitate the entire range of
these movements". Value Points: rare and
delightful automaton with wonderful and realistic
movements.
