17" (43 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, very full cheeks, amber brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve-blushed eye shadow, feathered brows, shaded nostrils, accented eye corners, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French kid bebe body with gusset-jointing at hips, knees and elbows, bisque forearms. Condition: generally excellent, old reglue at knuckle of left forefinger. Marks: 2. Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, first period bebe from that firm, circa 1877. Value Points: most endearing gentle expression, finest quality of bisque with delicate pale complexion having subtle blush on eyelids, cheeks and chin, very sturdy original body, beautiful early dress (possibly original). Attached to the doll is an old note "doll was discovered in the carriage house of the Devereaux estate in Swampscott, Ma". Private collection, Lorna Lieberman.
