Description
12" (30 cm.) h. x 18"l. x 9"d. The light-wood
open-front shop has an unusual three-sided back
and two side facades that give dimension and a
sense of greater size to the tiny size. The
walls,of cobalt blue paper, are decorated lavishly
with gold paper borders and raised-construction
gilt papers that suggest carving (especially
notable on the side wall frames). There are two
mirrors, and liberal floral and cherub decoupage.
There are three curved-front shelves at the
sides and back, and unusual stepped shelves at the
sides of the front counter. An ormolu and
glass chandelier hangs above,a porcelain lady doll
stands in attendance, and the shop is fitted
with glass and paper mache perfume and toiletry
jars and bottles. The exterior has original old
paper-covered surface. Excellent condition. For
the French market,circa 1875.
