16" (41 cm.) Paper mache socket head, black sculpted tightly-curled hair, black sculpted angled brows with shaded detail, small brown glass eyes with large irises, heavy eyelids, flattened rounded nose, closed mouth with very downcast full lips in pouting expression, full cheeks, and with four modeled tears tumbling down his cheeks, composition jointed body. Condition: generally excellent, few tiny paint rubs. Marks: 11824. Comments: Leo Moss, early 1900s, the doll was known in the Moss family as "Crying Georgie". Value Points: most endearing characterization, and having four tears. From the Myla Perkins collection, featured in museum exhibitions and in her book, Black Dolls (Collector Books, 1993), page 16.
