Description
18"(46 cm.) Firmly-pressed cloth head with
oil-painted complexion,hair and facial
features,brown hair with swirled curls at the
forehead,brown downcast eyes,white eyedots,black
upper eyeliner,tinted brows,accented
nostrils,closed mouth,blushed cheeks and
ears,firmly-stuffed muslin torso and disc-jointed
legs,cloth-covered paper mache arms with jointing
at shoulders and elbows,composition hands,wearing
antique costume that is likely original.
Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Schneider's
Kunstpuppen-Atelier Karl Schneider Bad-Kosen (foot
stamp). Comments: Karl Schneider,circa 1921; an
original partner in the Puppenkunst Elisabeth
company with Gunther Heine with the stated goal of
creating dolls that would "awaken...the aesthetic
sensibility in children"and in direct competition
with the nearby Kathe Kruse firm. Schneider left
after one year to found his own
company,Kunstpuppen-Atelier,and in 1921 registered
a design for a doll head. The last mention of his
firm is only three years later,in 1924. For more
