Emile Jumeau,circa 1889,the doll portrays a
Spanish matador with distinctively-painted
complexion, use of body style to complement the
unique costume,and appropriate coiffure,the hair
drawn back and captured in a thickly-woven silk
cap with red woven braid. Value Points: extremely
rare (only one other all-original model is
known),the doll wears his original couturier silk
"traje de luces"matador costume of emerald green
silk with bronze green silk lining, and
extraordinary appliques of gold metallic braid and
trim,tightly-fitting to his shapely body,and
comprising four pieces: vest,bolero jacket,cape
with collar,and knee-length britchess,along with
lace-edged jabot,knit stockings,woven cap,and
brown leather shoes signed "Paris Depose 8"with
bee symbol. The doll was likely an exclusive model
created for the 1889 International Exposition in
Paris, designed to appeal to an international
traveling audience, and is in a remarkable state of
preservation.
