Description
4 1/2" (11 cm.) x 3" painting. 9" x 7" frame. A rich oil painting on board depicts two fashionable young girls in a park-like setting with an arrangement of little houses and trees that they are arranging in a village scene; one tree has tipped over and one little girl is daintily holding her skirt as leans to right the tree. The tiny scene is remarkable for its detail of costumes, fabrics, facial expressions, and even architectural details of the toy houses. The artist,Luigi Loir, has lettered the name of his scene,"Un Village",in the lower corner. The French artist,Luigi Loir, whose genre paintings of Paris street scenes, earned him a Medaille d'Or at the 1889 Paris International Exposition, created a series of these superb miniature paintings of children with their toys and dolls.
