Description
11" (28 cm.) h. x 17"w. x 12"d. A wooden
three-sided stage with decorative lithograph paper
cover and wall paper is designed with a circular
cut-out at the center upon which are posed three
pairs (six dolls) of 5" bisque-head dolls with
glass inset eyes,painted features,open
mouth,mohair wigs,painted shoes and socks,and
original silk and lace costumes,each couple
attached by a metal rod protruding from the floor.
When the handle at front is turned,the circular
base revolves,twirling the couples in
unison,and,in addition,each couple twirls
separately. Meanwhile two children stand at the
back,turning in time to the dance,while one plays
the violin. Condition: generally excellent.
Comments: attributed to Zinner and Sohne,circa
1890. Value Points: deluxe mechanical musical
vignette by the luxury firm,each of the eight
dolls has original wig and wonderful costume,the
room is decorated with ormolu candle holders,floor
mirror and ormolu-framed prints; music and motion
function well and delightfully.
