Description
4" (10 cm.) box. Including a domed box with velvet
and paper cover and having cast brass embossed
handleand clasp,with original label of
AlphonseGiroux. Along with two leather bound
miniaturejournals,1865 and 1867,from Maison Giroux
with publicity pages at thefront (including
"jouets d'enfants") followed by diary pages for
each day of theyear (somepages missing from 1867).
The1865 journal has handwritten noteon January
1,listing Etrennes gifts purchased for that day's
gift-giving,including "Semainedes
Enfants,canon,portemonnaie,livre,chien en
porcelain" and "bonbons divers" with a check mark
next to each,presumably indicating that theholiday
delight had been purchased. A wonderful bond to a
moment in "other people's lives". French,circa 1865.
