Description
21" (53 cm.) h. 12"l. Standing upon a wooden
platform with metal spoked wheels,is
Polichinelle,having paper mache head with painted
facial features,strong nose,jutting chin,brown
eyes,broadly-beaming toothy smile,white mohair
wig,block torso with shaped front hump,paper mache
lower legs with painted stockings and upturned
shoes,wire upper arms,wooden hands. He has cymbals
in his hands,a cymbal at his back that clangs with
a cymbal atop the drop,and a wooden ball clacker
that is designed to beat against the drum on his
back. When pulled along,the cymbals all clap and
the drum is beat. Condition: very
good,all-original with some fading and moth holes
in costume. Comments: French,circa 1890. Value
Points: Polichinelle's wonderful one-man orchestra
is imaginatively created; he wears his factory
original costume including jester suit and cap
