24"(61 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with very
full elongated cheeks and throat,brown glass
enamel inset eyes,dark painted eyeliner,painted
lashes,rose blushed eye shadow,brush-stroked and
feathered brows,shaded nostrils,closed mouth with
shaded and outlined lips,separately-modeled
pierced ears with nice blushed detail,dimpled
chin,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,French
composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed
body with straight wrists. Condition: generally
excellent. Marks: 11 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or
Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau,an early
model of the Bebe Triste,circa 1884. Value Points:
desirable size with beautiful bisque and
modeling,original wig,pate,body,body finish and
wearing lovely original blue silk and velvet dress
with lace trim,undergarments,knit stockings,black
leather shoes signed "Paris Depose 11",Jumeau
earrings,and lavish antique bonnet of black velvet
with feather and crepe de chine trim. An original
blue silk label "Bebe Jumeau Med d'Or
Paris"appears on the lace underskirt of her dress;
this label was mentioned in Jumeau publicity but
is virtually never found on costumes today.
