12" (30 cm.) h. x 33"l. x 13"d. A fine early
German grocery store with original ochre and brown
painted finish at the front with red
pencil-striped trim,original grey painted finish
on the exterior with unusual painted windows,and
with elaborately-hinged glass front window/doors
that can be opened in a variety of ways. The
interior is fitted with a back wall of 24 spice
drawers with hand-lettered labels that center a
mirrored display niche with crown-shaped
cornice,and there are built-in shelves at each
side,and an original free-standing counter with
drawers and a coin slot. The store is furnished
with an early tinplate scale,and various
wooden,tin,and glass early containers,some with
original labels. Of particular note are the very
early and obscure foods and food names on the
drawers including Johannisbrot (carob),Weinstein
(tartar),Mandelkern (almond) and Gewurze (spiced
vinegar). Excellent and original condition of the
rare early store. Germany,mid-19th century.
