15" (38 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with very plump cheeks and chin,amber brown glass paperweight inset eyes,thick dark eyeliner,painted lashes,feathered brows,mauve-blushed eye shadow,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with shaded and outlined lips,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,all-wooden body with shapely torso,dowel-jointing at shoulders,elbows,wrists,hips,knees and ankles. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: N.1C.28 (incised on torso). Comments: Leon Casimir Bru,Bebe Modele was first mentioned in his 1879 advertising and appears to only have been made until 1883 at the latest,always in very limited exclusive numbers. The wooden-bodied bebe or child doll was a continuation of his deposed wooden-bodied poupee or lady doll,also a luxury model. This example,with Brevete face,is the earliest period model. Value Points: an exceptional Bebe Modele,in rare petite size,with superb body sculpting,original body finish,and finest quality of bisque with exquisite complexion and painting of eye decoration.
