9" (23 cm.) Thethreeone-piecefigures areeach of
poured wax with black enamel eyes and painted
features,having cloth costumes that aredipped in
wax for artistic effect; thetrio depict women of
theNew Orleans area,circa 1910,in everyday
activities. Oneis rocking a child in a rocking
chair,oneis feeding a kitten,and onehas a small
child seated at her feet. Oneis marked
"GenuineVargas New Orleans,La" on base. Circa
1920,theVargas family of New Orleans werenoted wax
artists for several generations,and during
theearly 1900s created a series of wax dolls in
vignettes of New Orleans life.
