18" (46 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta depicting an elderly lady with deeply-defined craggy features, strong jaw and nose, incised age lines on face and throat, grey sculpted hair looped over her ears and forming into a looped and braided bun with tendrils of curls onto her neck, blue painted ribbon and bow, enamel inset eyes, closed mouth, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted blue stockings and flat black shoes, wearing original folklore costume and carrying silver lidded basket. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, outstanding sculpting and painting indicates prestige studio work.
