Description
6" (15 cm.) Bisque socket head depicting a little girl with puckered lips as though about to bestow a kiss, blue glass sleep eyes, painted upper curly lashes, short feathered brows, accented nostrils of upturned nose, closed mouth with puckered lips, impressed cheek dimples, brunette mohair wig, five- piece paper mache body, factory original costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 11173 4/0 Heubach (square) Germany. Comments: Gebruder Heubach, circa 1927, the model was commissioned for George Borgfeldt, the doll design was by the German-born American artist Hy Mayer who copyrighted the doll in 1927 according to information in the Borgfeldt catalog of that year. Henry "Hy" Mayer was a cartoonist for Universal Studios from 1913-1920, and designed the "Such is Life" film series from 1920-1926. Value Points: the very rare and charming doll has added appeal from its American-artist design background.
