Description
14" (36 cm.) A heavy papier-mache figure
Polichinelle with socket head and wire-jointed
arms and legs has sculpted and painted facial
features,jester cap,costume with traditional front
and back humps,and pointy-toe shoes with
pom-poms,with decorations continued on the back.
Condition: generally excellent,original finish.
Comments: French,mid-19th century,possibly
Malet-Noret of Paris,circa 1856,the firm
specialized in "all sizes of Polichinelles,dressed
talking pantins,luxury marottes and actors and
marionettes for puppet theatres". Value Points:
rare and well-preserved early Polichinelle,along
with an early wooden throne chair with original
cream and gilt paint.
