Description
16" (41 cm.) head circ. 18" l. Solid domed head of
honey-toned wax with socket neck, defined baby hair
and brows,eyes modeled in nearly-closed
manner,closed mouth,modified classic Bye-lo cloth
body with constructed neck form to support socket
head,celluloid hands,elaborate antique baby gown
and bonnet. Condition: generally excellent,some
typical wax scuffs on face, some finger repair.
Comments: Circa 1922,Bye-lo,the wax model was
especially commissioned by Grace Story Putnam for
exclusive distribution by luxury New York City
stores; at one time it was stated that only 150 of
the dolls had been made, and their rarity today
would seem to support that, although uncertain.
Value Points: very rare variation of the keynote
American doll.
