15" (38 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead depicting ruddy-faced plump smiling lady, black sculpted hair in formed curls framing the face, then drawn back into a fitted chignon which is circled by black hair band, fully-sculpted ears, enamel eyes, closed smiling mouth, row of painted teeth, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted black stockings and black clogs, wearing silk and velvet folklore costume with embroidered apron lined with early Italian printed paper, with turquoise and silver necklace. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, rare expressive character, complexion, hair style and hair color.
