Description
11"(28 cm.) Each doll is constructed with padded cloth over armature, and having slightly-
dimensional facial features with painted complexion and detailed features that are an apt
characterization of the actual person,stitched-on wigs, and each is wearing a costume from an
actual film. Condition: generally excellent, slight dustiness on some costumes. Marks: made by
Mary Green (on most, and some with original inventory number and paper label indicating
name of doll and film in which the costume appeared). Comments: the dolls were created by
artist Mary Green under special commission for Daniel Blum, editor of Screen World, circa
1940s,and were used illustratively in his Screen World Annuals; after Blum's death in 1964,the
dolls were auctioned in New York. Included are Joseph Santley from 1915 film "All Over
Town",Blanch Ring from "The Wall Street Girl"(1915),Eugene O'Brien from "Kitty McKay
(1914),Willette Kershaw from "The Crowded Hour"(1919),Donald Brian from "The Siren"(1911)
and E.A. Sothern (no film designated). Value Points: very rare one-of-a-kind dolls with superb
detail of painting and costuming, apt historical documents of America's earliest silent film
stars.
