20"(51 cm.) Hard rubber flanged head with rich black complexion and deeply sculpted age and
character features,sculpted black hair in neatly combed fashion thick brows,painted wide-open
side glancing eyes,modeled-closed mouth in wide-open expression with sculpted teeth and
tinted white lips,muslin stitch-jointed body,black leather hands,wearing black cotton suit and
white shirt. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: circa 1927,maker unknown,depicting Al
Jolson (1886-1950) in blackface for his role in "The Jazz Singer"; the film marked a major step
into sound films with Jolson performing six songs. The Russian-born singer and actor was one of
America's most popular performers throughout the 1930s and 40s,on stage,records,radio and
film. Value Points: very rare doll with superb sculpting,retaining its original finish and costume.
