Description
12"(30 cm.) All-composition doll with socket head, very chubby face and torso, sculpted hair
with forelock curl, painted blue side-glancing eyes, upturned nose, closed mouth with pouting
expression,five-piece composition body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: A Petite Doll.
Comments: American Character Doll Co,from their "Petite"line, this being the model
"Puggy",introduced at the time of Effanbee's "Skippy",1930s,and aimed at competing with that
doll. The doll was inspired by young child actor Jackie Cooper, who had first made his name as
a character in Hal Roach's "Our Gang"and then,in 1931,as the starring role in "Skippy"for which
he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar (the youngest actor, ever,at age 9). Value Points:
wonderful doll, costumed in original Western cowboy suit with large hat, with celluloid button
of Jackie Cooper in Our Gang. The doll is autographed by Jackie Cooper on his chest, and an
autographed photograph is also included "To Billie, from a much older Jackie Cooper".
