19"(48 cm.) Wax shoulder head turned daintily to the left,with black sculpted bobbed hair and
bangs,brown painted eyes turned to the right and having dark outline,closed mouth,wrapped
armature body and original crepe paper costume and boots. Condition: doll excellent,costume
a tad faded. Comments: from The Art Shop gallery of wax portrait dolls,(see Lot #100 for story
of these dolls),this example portraying Colleen Moore (1899-1988),the important silent
screen star,also notable for her life-long interest in dolls and dollhouses; her famous 8' "fairy
castle"dollhouse is housed today at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Value
Points: the rare doll is autographed on her back torso "For Billie,memories of the party given
me by ...,(and signed) Colleen Moore". Included is an early sepia-toned studio photograph
signed "Sincerely,Colleen Moore".
