31" (79 cm.) Composition head with unusual sculpted collar,painted brown hair in side-parted
fashion with high forehead crown,angular face with strong chin and aquiline nose,painted
features,brown eyes with brown eyeliner,short stroke brows,closed mouth with smiling
expression and row of painted teeth,painted moustache,muslin stitch-jointed
body,composition hands with painted gloves,composition black shoes,black suit with white
shirt,silk tie,boutonniere. Condition: generally excellent,composition split at either side of
head behind the ears. Comments: Circa 1920,maker uncertain,the doll depicts George Arliss
(the distinguished star of both silent and sound films,the first British-born actor to earn an
Academy Award (Disraeli,1929). Value Points: very apt portrayal with fine original finish
wonderfully preserved,including the painted monocle,a trademark of the actor. Antique
postcards of the actor are included. $500/700
