33"(84 cm.) Composition head with flocked finish,constructed collar with cardboard shirt
front,brown hair in a neat side-parted style,painted facial features with narrow blue eyes,thick
blue eyeliner and eye shadow,strong nose,closed mouth with beaming smile,muslin stitch-
jointed body,flocked composition hand and feet,wearing original black woolen suit and straw
bowler. Condition: generally excellent,few paint rubs on shirt and collar front. Marks: Ste.
L'Arlequin,6 Rue Duhesme 5 Paris XVIII (cloth label inside jacket). Comments: French,circa
1920s,Chevalier had returned to Paris after WWI and performed there for nearly a decade; it
was likely the doll was created during this time. Value Points: rare doll,a perfect likeness of
the popular performer,with original costume,maker's label,and wearing a hat with the label
"Chapeau Maurice Chevalier,(from) Sools,Maitre Chapelier"and "Souvenir Perroquet".
